The holidays are almost here, which means cold nights, flashing lights and if you're lucky some presents too! Since everyone turns their attention to the festive period, analysts usually anticipate a seasonal uplift in stock markets this time of year, often referred to as the Santa Claus rally. But after a challenging year of high inflation levels, interest rate hikes and geopolitical tensions, many of us will just be glad to see the back of 2022.
For the final month of the year, our portfolio manager Daniel Greenhough and advisor Mike O'Sullivan mull things over for December and what they expect going into 2023. They look at how interest rate shifts impact the economy and some market leaders such as Tesla and Amazon have been subdued recently. They also discuss the potential effects of the US dollar strengthening and the risky path to an exit being taken by the Bank of Japan's Head as he gets ready to step down.
